All of our primary classrooms are fully equipped to reflect the growing needs of pupils from EYFS to the end os Key Stage 2. Our secondary classrooms are also equipped with a smart board and projector for interactive learning. These rooms are more age appropriate, with emphasis towards practical and academic learning.
We are very proud of the learning resource materials we have available for staff and the children. We have two fully stocked libraries, as well as smaller reading areas in each of the classrooms. We offer talking books, animated e-books, symbol packs, topic boxes and custom made iPad apps. We have a vast amount of technology on offer to our children, helping all of our children to access learning on different media. We have a dedicated ICT room, 2 laptop trolleys for use in class, and iPads. We also have state of the art Eye Gaze technology, as well as a Green Screen for the children to use.
Mayfield has two fully equipped multi-sensory rooms, with fundraising efforts to equip a third. They have specialist lighting equipment, foam flooring and tactile and auditory stimuli. We also have two soft play rooms, equipped with ball pools and padded climbing structures. These are a great space to teach the children about body co-ordination and awareness.
Our heated, purpose built hydrotherapy pool is a calming environment for gentle exercise and to promote physical well-being. The multi-functional lighting system provides a sensory environment, which can be controlled by the children pressing switches along the poolside, or by making sounds into a microphone.
Here at Mayfield, we are lucky enough to have some wonderful purpose built recreational areas. Our field boasts an adventure assault course, wheelchair friendly paths and a seperate play park with slides, and wheelchair friendly swings. There is also a large sandpit for sensory play sessions, and a Polytunnel for gardening activities.
Our older pupils now have their very own Sixth Form College as part of Mayfield. It serves as a great transition between leaving the main school and starting at their next step provisions. The site has a large communal space at it’s centre, with an ICT room, offices, a quiet room, art room and a professional kitchen where the pupils cook all of their own lunches. It is a great space to focus on Independent Living skills to prepare them for adulthood.
