Welcome to Mayfield School

Welcome to our school website & thank you for showing on interest in our school.

We are a large special school which is organised over 3 sites in Brixham, Paignton and Torquay. All pupils are identified as being appropriate to attend the school will have an Education Health and Care plan (EHCP) and they may be between 2-19 years.

We believe, that by providing a positive environment which is safe, supportive, responsive to need within the context of appropriate high quality teaching and therapeutic interventions, all pupils and students will make progress.

Our school mission is ‘Learning together to be the best that we can be’ and this is what we strive for every day coupled with the unwritten law of ‘making every day count’.

The main school is for 175 pupils with severe or profound learning difficulties between 2-16 years old. This site is in Torquay and is the original part of the school and serves to co-ordinate the work of the 2 other provisions. This school is organised into 5 key stages which are Foundation stage and Key Stages 1-5.

Due to ever increasing numbers we opened our College in Paignton in 2016 in the Occombe area and this has 40 students aged 16-19 who will have transitioned from the main school. Some students do come at 16 yrs from other schools. All students will have an EHCP.

The third part of the school is in Brixham and it opened in September 2015. It is called the Chestnut Centre and is for 30  primary aged pupils with an EHCP which identifies Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). These students may return to a mainstream setting or spend their primary school career at the centre before transitioning to an appropriate secondary school.
